[7 May 1997] The theme to the Warner Bros. TV series "Steven Spielberg Presents Animaniacs" Composed by Richard Stone. Transcribed by Ron O'Dell (keeper@cruzio.com, keeper@armory.com). Because this theme is more complicated than other themes I have transcribed by ear, I'll be doing it quite a bit differently. The result will be a bit more difficult to read and play, I think, but if you use this file to write down your own sheet music copy, this way will be a bit easier. This time, a lowercase letter will represent a note on a lower octave. However, the centermark will shift at each of the four key changes in this piece. The center note (the first uppercase letter note) will be given for the respective staves, in the standard octave notation. Here is an example, using all the C notes of a piano's range: C1, C, c, c', c'', c''', c'''', c''''' (Middle-C is c') A note only will be shown as a flat or a sharp if it is a non-key tone. This is different than my other transcriptions, which gave each note exactly. But considering the number of flat notes in this score, I think having a lot of `bb' to mean a B-flat below the centermark would be too confusing. I will mention at the key changes which notes should default to flat or sharp. Doing it this way means I must introduce a natural symbol, for to cancel a key's flats or sharps. I will use `n'. I will use it every time a natural non-key tone is played, instead of only the first appearance in each measure, as a real score would show. This should make things a bit easier. Also, I will mention what chord is being played, because there are cases where the chord is a dominant seventh, but neither the melody or the bass will be playing the seventh degree; only the background orchestra will. You don't expect me to transcribe all the parts, with all those runs...? The chord will only be listed when there is a change. The top staff will be the melody (the singers). The middle staff will be the bass. The bottom staff will be significant additional notes, such as the xylophone, orchestra hits or trumpet parts. You'll figure out what's what, I'm sure. The xylophone bits will be written in the score where they would appear for a xylophone player, i.e., one octave lower than the actual sound. A pianist will want to adjust accordingly. Of course, anyone playing a transposing instrument (clarinet, trumpet, etc.) also will have to do some adjusting to get the right notes. Because I'll be giving the notes pretty much as they appear in a score, you'll see an E-sharp. I know if you haven't studied much music, you may be confused by that. A sharpened E makes an F. It just would look weird on the score to write the note as an F. This has been the most difficult by-ear transcription I've ever done. Making an ASCII file for this score is a daunting idea, but here we go: Each count of four is one quarter note. Each line is one measure. Key: A-flat major.
